Eat like Kurt Wallander

Wallander’s eating and drinking lairs.

Henning Mankell revolutionized, sounds bold but I stand by it, the Nordic Crime Genres with the pages of Kurt Wallander's daily life, not least his eating and drinking habits.
It all came alive in a graspable way. Today’s writers have some to thank him for.

And the fun thing is that you can actually eat and drink in the spots the dear old Kurt did.
(Funny how I refer to him in past tense). So let’s look in it.

Eating like Kurt Wallander at Continental. The table was originally square. But today it is round. With a Coffee stain and all.

In the rooms above there are some people cheating on their wife/husband. And breaking up. Henriksson ses 1

Loch Lomond in the red circle

Kings Head isn't the fanciest bar you walked into. In this environment Kurt will fit like a fish in the water. The Loch Lomond* bottle is the Wallander bottle. An excellent one if you ask me and Captain Haddock in Tintin.

If you're an IFK Göteborg football fan, like me, you will find friends among the straff. Heja Blåvitt! I guess they don´t get many guests from Malmö? 

Fritidsbaren looks fancier in the series than it is. But it has the best of locations. Just at the Beach.

The meatball sandwich was a hit. If you really want to look like a forreign tourist, then order the meatball plate. My kids Ice Cream place through the years.

Le Cardinal is a real Wallander place. A fancier pizza restaurant. Here he will rule like a King as one of the regulars. In the film at least. I spoke a few words with the owner that is seen in the Henrikssons series.

Sibylla

Österportsgrillen

A Wallander lunch is pretty much how the real cops had/have their meals. At the hot dog stand.

Sibylla is the place where Stefan Lidman doesn't get to eat his meal in the Henriksson series ses 1.

But in the books, Österportgrillen, closer to Mariagatan, is the place for a Wallander lunch. Mostly a hamburger.

The French fries at Sibylla are tremendous and stand out from other such places.

A real revisit place.

Kåseberga!!!

Finish it with Wallander’s picnics at Kåseberga. The fishing village of Kåseberga, buying smoked fish and other sea related food. Walking up the hills for the best of Views. In the shadows of Swedish Stonehenge Ales stenar. The picture of the fish in the post is from another lunch in Kivik. Another great Fishing Village.

Smoked herring, Skåne style!

Of course I didn't eat my way through Wallanderland in one day. This trail is a mix of two different original posts in 2021. And some places were just drinking place waterholes in the heat during those days. The Continental wasn´t opened for the day when I visit it. But the very kind staff showed me around to the right table anyway. Kudos!

*Tintin’s creator made up a whiskey label to use in 1965, Loch Lomond. Seemingly unaware of the start up of a real brand with that name a year later. He kept using the name Loch Lomond in all following publications.
