Utö a different kind of Trail.
Utö is not a part of Roslagen. It is in the southern part of Stockholm Archipelago.
Not in Uppland but in the District of Södermanland. But it was trailed during my Roslagen trails so I post it as such.
Just as Sandhamn it is located where the Archipelago turns into open Sea.
Maybe even more so.
Why did I go here, besides that I wanted to revisit it? Well, it is not because of any book och film. More than the Island capture the feeling of books and films.
the Wallander episode the Worried Man, The theme is Submarine hunting, based on real happenings just inside of Utö. I don’t know if they filmed any of it at Utö. But certainly could have. But here is that place in the real world.The same goes with Morden. The Swedish Nordic Noir series with Graven and Morden together with the peculiar De drabbade, was the Swedes warm up in front of Bron, Jordskott and Ängelby. That led to them more or less.
The mines, today water filled, in Morden looked like the ones at Utö. At least in my faded memory.
The real locations of the mines are at Mjälby not far from Gnesta (Hedestad). on the mainland.
The Boat from Årsta Havsbad takes a hour. Same routine as to Sandhamn.
Utö is however much larger. And I had a goal. To eat my Easter lunch on the naked cliffs with the Baltic Sea as company. A truly mindful experience.
Only missing a shot of Utö Aquavit. White wine had to do.
of Morden. The harbor in Morden is filmed at Stora Höggarn that I passed on my trip to Vaxholm (next post).Doing the trail I found a Crime Novel for youths that takes part in Utö. Louise Björnlund’s Mentorn (Skärgårdsmorden series). And crime novels by Folke Mellvig and Anders B.O. Jonson.
The next trail I had to wait a week to do then I went to Vaxholm, with a bunch of writers to trail.
